My good friend who has Empathy as one of her themes says she is always going to her kids' defense with their father..."She's three, give her a break!"
I can imagine that this will become challenging during the teen-age years when kids test in some dangerous ways and when they are smart enough to know which parent will give in the easiest.
How do you draw the line between empathy for your children's feelings and letting them get away with murder? I'd love to hear your thoughts?
"You can sense the emotions of those around you. You can feel what they are feeling as though their feelings are your own...Where others grapple for words, you seem to find the right words and the right tone. You help people find the right phrases to express their feelings - to themselves as well as to others...other people are drawn to you." - pg. 97 of Now, Discover Your Strengths (Buckingham & Clifton)
